WELCOME

We invite you to one of the few places on earth where the most challenging of sled dog races occur. The Can-Am Crown 250 is highly accessible with a Main Street start and designated spectator points in the towns of Eagle Lake, Portage Lake, St. John, St. Francis and Allagash, to accommodate your need for food and comfort at the race. For logistic and safety reasons, checkpoints west of Portage lake are closed to the public. Racing events in Fort Kent are planned to have maximum accessibility and visibility. There are no fees to view the races. Bring your camera.

Excitement. Whether you are traveling 10 miles or 1,000 miles, this is an event worth seeing. Dog teams and drivers are conditioned athletes that train intensely for these events. Filled with fabulous color and sound, Fort Kent Main Street is decorated with beautiful ice sculptures and elaborate Mardi Gras banners. Come and participate in the day we have all been waiting for!

Relax. As you visit our bustling towns along the way, you may want to pause for refreshment and talk with the local folks. Enjoy the pace of life and the helpful and friendly people. You'll find everything you need for a uniquely enjoyable experience.

Leave The World Behind

At some point in your travel you may sense that you have left the usual world behind. Your anticipation may climb and your senses spark excitement and adventure. Your mind may wander to the mushers and what it will be like for them. Watch out for moose! You are in north country now. When you get to Fort Kent the start of the race will bring your excitement to its highest pitch!

Weekend Centerpiece

At 250 miles, Maine's Can-Am Crown International Sled Dog Race is the longest and highest caliber race in the eastern United States. For the men and women who challenge themselves and their teams of dogs, it represents great adventure, accomplishments and reward. It is a course for experts and those moving up in the exciting sport of sled dog racing with winners claiming their share of a $19,100 purse!

The Upper St. John Valley is a classic setting for the CAN-AM CROWN 250. The race course runs deep into the famous Allagash Wilderness region, a setting which embodies so much of Maine's heritage and natural splendor.

Celebrate

To celebrate you visit to the St. John Valley, The Can-Am Crown organization arranged a dinner and awards ceremony after each racing event. The Grand Musher's Banquet, after the conclusion of the CAN-AM CROWN 250, features a special master of ceremonies and live entertainment in a festive setting. It's the highlight of the race series, a celebration for you, your friends and favorite mushers! Dress comfortably. don't miss the Sunday's Awards Brunch to applaud the races in the Nome's Pet Supply 30 and Fort Kent Lions 60.

Safety Tips

We have set up a special display area with "petable"huskies and mushing gear. Remember, all children love dogs, but not all dogs love children. Please keep children away from sled dog teams. Pet dogs are forbidden at the race. Bring extra warm clothing just in case. Have fun.
